Houston: I have a problem. Perhaps you can help?: I find these articles VERY ineresting and informative; however, I already have a lovely wife, so I don't want to get married to the web, and your excellent long, long, long articles. Brevity is the spice of whit for humor, and brevidy is the spice of readership, so please cut down the verbiege. Journalists with experience can do this. Seems like you're milking the longevity system. Shorten, but keep up the good work. Respectfully: Mike Stacy

Dear Mike.
I get your point but, unfortunately, it takes time and effort to counter
"Russia invaded Georgia"
"Putin poisons his enemies"
"Putin is restoring Stalin"
"Obama has tossed Poland and the Czech Republic under the bus"
and the like.
Countering "bumper sticker analysis" always takes longer than printing (and re-printing ad nauseum) the original bumper sticker.
So please bear with us.

After all, we save you all the time of reading the NYT, Economist and WashPost, so you're ahead of the game!

Welcome!

  • Welcome to "Other Points of View" on Russia. We believe there is need in the public forum for a venue which offers opinions and facts that at times may differ from the prevailing view in western media.

Our point of view is not political, is not theoretical, and is not academic. It comes from decades of working at the grassroots of Soviet and post-Soviet society and being avid watchers of Russian politics, economics, history, societal conditioning and current mindsets. Please review our history in order to better understand our perspective on Russia today.

This blog has a companion program, the Russia Media Watch (RMW), which analyzes select pieces of western media for accuracy or inaccuracy of content based on 17 objective criteria. Analyses are then sent to the journalist, the publication and to a wide list of American Congress members, think tanks, business and civic leaders throughout the country.
